The 6500 Slide’s display is capable of showing up to 16 million different color shades. It easily would have preferred a brighter 65k or 262k color display in its place. In its defense, the display is very easily viewed in direct sunlight since it is reflectiveness.
The 6500 Slide is capable of email as well as typical SMS and MMS messaging functions. I was able to setup and use an IMAP based personal email account without any problems at all. SMS and MMS also worked just as expected. The 6500 Slide supports EDGE and GPRS data on any of its four GSM bands and faster 3G UMTS data on the 850 and 2100MHz bands. I was unable to test 3G data on the 6500 Slide, but the EDGE system performed well. Other connectivity options include Bluetooth 2.0+EDR devices, including A2DP stereo headphones, and micro-USB cables.
The camera on the Nokia 6500 Slide is equipped with a dual-LED flash and a Carl Zeiss auto-focus lens system. While it is capable of shooting some very nice photos, the combination of a somewhat optimistic auto-focus system and a clunky shutter button lead to far more out of focus images than one would expect.
While the music player is, indeed, very good, the AF digital camera takes some coaxing to get a good photo out of it. The stainless steel cover material looks good, but adds to the phone’s weight as well as makes it hard to keep clean. The QVGA display also lacks brightness, though it is, at least, usable in even the harshest lighting conditions. And then there is the problem with dropping calls that mars otherwise very good quality voice characteristics.
