Nokia announced six new mobile devices last week, including E series business phones, GPS-enabled handsets and the digital TV-capable N77.
Following the success of the quad band E61, the E61i goes one step further by throwing in a 2-mega pixel camera. This, we felt, is a mixed bag since the E series is targeted primarily at business professionals. While those who had earlier lamented the lack of a shooter may rejoice, users in more sensitive industries would probably stick instead with the older E61 which also offers 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity.
Nokia also showcased its E90 Communicator. Dressed in a sleek shade of black, the E90 is High-speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA)-enabled and features an integrated global positioning system (GPS). Design- and size-wise, this latest Communicator looks almost similar to the 9300i with its full QWERTY keyboard. But flip it over and you'll find a 3.2-mega pixel camera. The E90 also has a larger 1,500mAH battery with a rated talktime of 5 hours.
Both the E61i and E90 run on Series 60 Symbian 9.1 platform and are expected to be available in the second quarter of this year.
Putting Internet rumors to rest was the DVB-H-enabled N77 multimedia hand held. The Nokia N77 has a 2.4-inch QVGA screen capable of displaying up to 16 million colors and comes with Stereo Bluetooth (A2DP) support. According to the specifications, you can watch live TV for a good 5 hours on with the 1,100mAh battery before the phone needs a recharge. Other TV-related features include a dedicated application for selection, purchase and playback of television programs. The N77 also remembers your last watched channel and there's a 30-second replay function, after which you can continue with the live TV broadcast.
Hardware aside, Nokia also released its Intellisync Mobile Suite 8.0 which brings wireless email, file and application synchronization on a single platform. Together with the company's E series devices, the Finnish company hopes this will increase "the potential for businesses to achieve new levels of productivity and competitive advantage"
